SuperBead Filter
The SuperBead combines fine mechanical and biological filtration. It is used for (koi/swimming) ponds and swimming pools. The filter differs from ordinary bead filter systems and sand filters by its rinsing process. The corresponding beads are included in the delivery.
Some advantages of the SuperBead:
- Suitable for energy-saving pumps
- User-friendly
- No additional air pumps
(wear, maintenance and sensitive to moisture/water)
- Excellent biological filtration
- Lower energy consumption
- Easy automation
Brief description of how it works:
- The coarse pre-filtered water is pumped into the filter
- The beads float on top and lie still
- The beads trap fine debris up to 20 microns
- Biological filtration takes place on the surface of the beads
- The trapped debris is removed by flushing the filter regularly
- Optional easy automation of flushing is possible
The hourglass shape of the SuperBead ensures:
- Smooth water flow through the filter
- Good distribution of water through the filter bed
- The rinsing process
- Avoidance of dead dirt corners
Rinsing process Bead filter:
Every bead filter is characterised by a rinsing process. The captured dirt particles have to be flushed out of the filter again. In contrast to modified sand filters, the SuperBead was developed specifically for this rinsing process.

Rinsing process Bead filter:
Every bead filter is characterised by a rinsing process. The captured dirt particles have to be flushed out of the filter again. In contrast to modified sand filters, the SuperBead was developed specifically for this rinsing process.
Modified sand filters:
- Require stronger water pumps (=more energy) for normal operation
- Their resistance is greater, which is why larger - more expensive - pumps are required
- Use a 6-way flush valve: complicated operation
- Use an external air blower for flushing: cannot be set up outdoors - Vulnerable
- Recovery risk of flushing too thoroughly - Damage to biology
- Use a lot of water per flush
- Have small connections of 50/63 mm (=more powerful pump=higher energy costs)
The SuperBead:
- Works with energy-saving low-pressure pumps
- Does not damage the biology during flushing
- Uses little flushing water (Small +/- 150 litres - Large +/- 400 litres)
- High flows at low pressure (Small max. 14 m3/hour - Large max. 25 m3/hour)
- High biological output (Small 400 grams/day - Large 1 kg/day)
- Has large ports of 75 (Small) - 90 mm (Large)
- Is easy to flush (switch off pump and empty)
- Is easy to automate
Pumping and energy saving
One of the biggest advantages of the SuperBead compared to other sand/bead filters is the pump pressure required. Very energy-efficient low-pressure pumps can easily be used with the SuperBead. Modified sand filters often require two to four times the pump power to pump the same net amount of water through the filter.
Practice:
A SuperBead requires a pre-filter system such as the SuperSieve (except indoors). The SuperBead can be easily installed anywhere, both below and above water level. It can also be placed further away from the pool if the pipe diameters are taken into account. As it is a closed filter, indoor installation does not cause any problems in terms of moisture, odours or insects.
The SuperBead has no electrical components such as a fan and can therefore be installed outdoors without hesitation. If the sewage system is too far away to discharge the wastewater, the pump can also be connected so that the wastewater is pumped directly to the sewage system. An additional set intended for this purpose is included in the scope of delivery.
